Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,

Let the Sunshine and the Cupcakes In

Here in Washington we're already seeing signs of spring and we've had some gloriously warm and sunny days.  Those sunny days put me in a sunny mood and I decided to make some bright and sunny marmalade for one of my March cupcake flavors.  I used a low sugar recipe and several different kinds of oranges.  The end result is bright and full of flavor.  I can't wait to use it in my cupcakes.
Orange Bliss Cheesecake.

Blank Canvas

I made these lovely cakes for the sweet ladies from my church to decorate.  They worked in teams to compete for best cake.  The evening was filled with conversation, laughter, and in the end delicious cake.  A fun time was had by all.

Three different flavors. Classic butter cake with chocolate frosting, white cake with berries and cream filling and cream cheese frosting, and chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, cookies and cream filling and vanilla cream cheese frosting.

3 blank canvases ready to be transformed

At the end we had an expert panel of judges decide which cake was the best.

Blackberries, Beaches and Beautiful Views

We said goodbye to Nashville, Tennessee after a regrettably short time living there but now we get to say hello to Seattle, Washington.  We'll dearly miss our friends in Tennessee as well as the gloriously warm and sunny winters, but not the hot humid summers.  Our first summer in Washington was incredibly beautiful.  We explored, picked and ate lots of berries, basked in the sunlight on the beaches and were constantly amazed by the stunning natural beauty all around us.

After 2 cross country moves in one year we were exhausted but eager to make new friends so I baked cupcakes.  We delivered boxes of cupcakes to all of our new neighbors to introduce ourselves.  Voila! Instant friends!

I'll Cater To You

In the last 2 years I've baked for so many catered events (literally hundreds) that they've all started to blur together.  It was a lot of fun, a lot of stress, and a lot of work. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to dip my feet into the world of catering.  I feel blessed and grateful to have worked with so many wonderful people and to have had so many opportunities in Utah.  I'm going to miss it but its time for some new challenges.  I'm moving to Nashville and getting married.  Let's take one final walk down my catering memory lane.

Congratulations Bethany and Brett!

Congratulations Bethany and Brett!  It was a gorgeous day and venue.  In fact it was so sunny and beautiful that this gluten free cake wanted to melt.  We managed to keep it cold just long enough for the beautiful reception.

His and Hers

Sweet Kayla and Mitch wanted his and hers naked cakes.  (Well these are really semi naked, we wouldn't want to embarrass anyone.)  Both cakes were gluten free so that everyone could enjoy them.  The brides cake had layers of lemon cake on the bottom with lemon curd and lemon cream cheese frosting and the top tier was coconut cream cake.  The grooms cake was chocolate raspberry on the bottom and chocolate orange on the top.  By the end of the reception nearly all of both cakes had been devoured.  It was so much fun to be part of their day.

Happy 85th and 90th Birthday Celebration

I just have to share this sweet little birthday cake.  This family gathered together to celebrate Grandma and Grandpa's birthday.  They had dinner and a dessert table with lots of other goodies but this cake was a surprise.  What a fantastic way to celebrate 85th and 90th birthdays.

Ari All Grown Up

Ari turned 12 this year and she just seems so grown up.  Princess, and fairy cakes are a thing of the past.  This year she wanted something simple and classic.

It's very adult on the outside but on the inside it's every little kid's dream.  Chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling.

Ari, so beautiful and so grown up.

Rocker Chic

This year we got 1 picture of Liv with her cake.  Maybe next year she'll be up for a photo shoot.

Liv turned 5 this year and we decided to celebrate with a Katherine Sabbath inspired cake.  Liv isn't a princess, she's totally a rocker chic.  She wanted chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate.  Gluten Free Chocolate Cake covered in hot pink and dark chocolate ganache.

Macey Smashes Her Cake

This is Macey Jaye on her first birthday.  So precious.  I made her an extra tall 5 inch vanilla vanilla naked cake.

Macey was a little reluctant to dig in.

Sweet Macey enjoys her sweet 1st birthday cake.

Easter Eggs

I usually post a picture of one of my yummy carrot cakes for Easter (because lets face it that's the only kind of cake the Easter Bunny likes) but this year I made about 100 Easter Egg cookies for Stonehaven Luxery Townhomes.  They put together a sweet little party for their residents.  Lots of sticky, sugary fun was had by all.

Lots of cookies ready to decorate.  Each child got their own little cup of my cream cheese frosting.
No sticky little fingers in the communal frosting bowl here.

The calm before the storm.

Ellie and Logan's Winter Wedding

"Whitaker Mountain"  Ellie's husband, Logan loves the outdoors and his jeep almost as much as he loves Ellie.  This little cabin in the mountains next to a ski slope is meant just for him.

My sweet sister in law Ellie was married in December.  I was able to make her wedding cake, groom's cake (above), 600 cupcakes and about 400 flavored spoons for her hot chocolate bar.  I had so much fun putting everything together!  There are loads of pictures so hold onto your hats!

The honeymoon cabin.
This tiny snowman next to their fire-pit was ridiculously hard to make.
This Jeep or "Logan's pride and joy" is parked at the bottom of the mountain because it is constantly breaking down. ;)

Funny story about the wedding cake - They were supposed to order flowers for it but forgot.  Logan's mom and grandma were kind enough to put some extra ribbons and greenery on it while I set up the cupcake and hot chocolate table.
A hot chocolate cupcake extravaganza.

I made 6 different kinds of cupcakes.  Cookie Dough, Lemon, Chocolate Peppermint, Cookies and Cream, Snickerdoodle and Caramel Pecan Carrot.  I made the Chocolate Peppermint in a Gluten Free Version as well.

We made 3 different flavors of hot chocolate spoons.  Dark chocolate aztec, milk chocolate caramel and white chocolate peppermint.  Our family collectively mourned when these chocolate spoons were all gone.  They were so incredibly good in or out of hot chocolate.
The caterer told me these were the best cupcakes he'd ever had.  That means a lot coming from a food person.

Personalized hot chocolate cups.  So adorable.
